Recently the cellular giant Nokia released an Internet tablet named Nokia 770. It fits in the palm of your hand and runs a customized Linux OS. This move by Nokia has gladdened the hearts of all Linux users. And considering the interest generated on this product among techno-savvy people, I think Nokia has moved in the right direction. Nokia has done the same things that I had listed in my previous article - 5 point program to beat a Mac. It has brought out a small product which supports the latest technologies, works on Linux OS and is beautifully designed.
Nokia 770 Specifications
- 220-MHz, ARM9-based Microprocessor
- 128 MB On-board memory , more than 64 MB available to the user.
- Memory slot - RS-MMC (Reduced size Multimedia Card)
- Standard Li-ion BP-5L Battery 1500 mAh (3 hours browse, 7 hours standby)
- WiFi and Bluetooth support for efficient networking.
- A USB port, Audio out and power connector.
- It weighs just 8.1 ounces and has a touch screen of 800x480 resolution with 65536 colors.
- Runs on Linux - Kernel 2.6, GNOME based GUI.
Considering the market share commanded by Nokia in the Cellular industry and the quality of their products (I own a Nokia cell phone myself), I think this product has all the markings of a runaway success.
