I have always wondered what constitutes the innards of a laptop. And whether we can customize the laptop the same way as we do a desktop. I came across this wonderful article named Do-It-Yourself laptop in which the author explains the steps needed to be taken for custom assembling a laptop with the specification of ones choice.
The article is well written and is buttressed with photos of each step. And at the end, the author dwells on the pros and cons of going the barebones way.
Even though this is not strictly Linux related, I have included it here for the knowledge factor it provides. Maybe after reading this article one can actually go and build a customized Linux based laptop.
